The All American Burger...Your Takeaway Made At Home

A juicy beef burger, crispy bacon on top, melted cheese, onion tomato and sauce, sandwiched between a floury bun, with sweet potato fries. What more could you want?

If you're craving a Saturday night takeaway why not try this homemade version?

This Burger recipe is for 4 people. 4 to 6 burgers can be made. I've included a burger bun recipe for anyone who wants to give the bread side ago. Working with yeast is actually quite easy it just takes time, proving and proving, doubling in size but then only minutes in the oven. They are yummy buns though!!

Sweet potato fries are becoming more and more popular, they are on alot of menus these days, just like normal chips these can be made in the oven or in a deep fat fryer.

The lime and roast tomato mayo has a really unique taste and goes so well smeared on each side of the burger bun, if you're a fan or tangy sauces try this one!

Sweet Potato Fries

3 sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into chips or wedges

1 tablespoon of olive oil

1 teaspoon of paprika

salt and pepper

* if you are using a deep fat fryer toss them in cornflour, this will really crisp them up.

1. Heat the oven to 180c

2. On a large tray place chips

3. Toss over the paprika, salt and pepper

4. Drizzle over the oil and mix

5. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown

If using the fryer toss in seasoning and cornflour and fry for 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crisp

Roast Tomato and Lime Mayo

12 cherry tomatoes roasted for 15- 20 minutes

1 egg yolk

1 teaspoon mustard

1 teaspoon white wine vinegar

250 ml oil

3 teaspoons of lime juice

1. Roast tomatoes and allow them to cool

2. Whisk the yolk, mustard, vinegar and juice by hand or in a blended

3. Add the tomatoes and blend until smooth

4. Drizzle the oil in slowly until it comes together and slightly thickens

Sesame Seeds or Poppy Seed Buns

350g plain flour

15 fresh yeast or 7g dried yeast

1 tsp sugar

1 tsp salt

35g butter

290ml warm water (not hot)

1 egg to glaze

sesame seeds or poppy seeds

Preheat oven to 220c

1. Sieve half the flour in a bowl, add the yeast, sugar and salt

2. Add the water and make a batter

3. In another bowl make breadcrumbs from the remaining flour and butter

4. Add the batter mix and combine to make a soft dough

5. On a floured surface knead the dough for 10 minutes. the dough should become a soft ball with a smooth outside. DO NOT do what they do on the tv and whack the dough off the counter and pull it around! move the dough in a motion forwards and roll back towards youself.

6. In a slightly oiled bowl place the dough in, cover with cling film on top and a dry tea towel, leave for 1 hour.

7. Take the dough out and knead again for 5 minutes, this is called knocking back. you are expelling the air and giving the dough an elastic texture.

8. Shape the dough into 4-6 buns, round balls and flatten on a greased tray.

9. Cover for 10 minutes with a dry tea towel.

10. Brush with egg on top and sprinkle seeds on.

11. Bake for 7-10 minutes until golden brown.
